How to choose the right PoE switch
1. Count your cameras. Pick a switch with at least that many PoE ports — and a few spare for future cameras.
2. Check the power budget. Most 2MP–5MP IP cameras typically draw 4–8 W. Multiply by your camera count and keep it under the switch's total PoE power (65 W for 4 port, 120–150 W for 8 port, 250–300 W for 16 and 24 port).
3. Fast Ethernet or Gigabit. Fast Ethernet is enough for normal CCTV. Choose Gigabit for 4K cameras, Wi-Fi access points or mixed office use.
4. Need a far building? Choose a model with an SFP slot and connect over fibre. For cameras 100–250 m away on copper, use Extend mode.
5. Mount it safely. Put the switch and NVR in a ventilated, lockable camera rack to protect them from dust, heat and tampering.

What is PoE Watchdog?
PoE Watchdog checks each camera. If one hangs, the switch power-cycles that port automatically so the camera reboots without a site visit.
What is the SFP port used for?
The SFP slot takes a fibre module, so you can link the switch to another building or a far server room over optical fibre — much longer than copper cable allows.
How far can a PoE camera be from the switch?
Standard Ethernet reaches about 100 m. NEXELTRON switches have an Extend mode that reaches up to 250 m at reduced speed, which is enough for CCTV.
